How Tech is Changing the Way Women Work

Quite a lot of useful points brought up on this WNYC panel on women, technology and the changing workplace. I found the choice of panelists very diverse and hence the wide array of perspectives brought on. Particularly loved Stacy-Marie Ishmael’s points on seeking diversity not just in terms of gender but also background and ethnicity, as well as her wise advice to learn to create rather than feed into the recent obsession with coding. Well worth watching and quite inspirational!

Two-year-old Suhaib Hijazi and his older brother Muhammad were killed when their house was destroyed by an Israeli missile strike. Their father Fouad was also killed and their mother was put in intensive care. Fouad’s brothers carry his children to the mosque for the burial ceremony as his body is carried behind on a stretcher.

Gazzetta dello Sport hosted a video hangout with defensive legends Paolo Madini and Giuseppe Bergomi, to discuss the upcoming Inter- Milan derby. Expectations and predictions came from both sides, with mutual agreement that Milan has gained some additional confidence from their midweek Champions League win over Barca which could tip the scale just a tiny bit in their favor.

In assessing both sides’ squads, Balotelli’s influence came up and how he can decide the game. Maldini thought his Inter background won’t be an obstacle once the match has started since he is focused on his Milan career now. Bergomi mentioned Cassano’s pairing with Guarin could also prove dangerous for Milan’s defensive starting line. Maldini mentioned being surprised by Constant’s solid performance and that his improving defensive play will be crucial in stopping such attacks. The conversation finished off with a short discussion on the wonderful atmosphere that San Siro always provides at the derby.

My review of Stephanie Laurens’ book A Rake’s Vow (part of the Cynster series) caught some likes on Goodreads and I though to post it over here for your enjoyment. I suppose I expressed my indignation in a slightly sarcastic manner - judge for yourself!

Omigod, another super promising story line with great characters only to be ruined by the over-metaphorical and flowery delivery. A shame, indeed. Here is the story of another cousin from the Cynster family, who thankfully is behaving more normally than the crazy over-domineering alpha-duke (Devil). You will fail to get a clear perception on his exact appearance, as the comparisons range from ‘feral cat’ to ‘wolflike’, which are nothing alike in veritas. And don’t even get started on the love scenes - the blaze in he fireplace ‘roared’ but the ‘flame’ between them also ‘roared’ (what?) … all in all things are roaring, thundering and getting entwined in wondrous glow.. way too often. It really killed the romance of the story, and thing is I really cared for these characters, since they were both quite rational and level- headed. But going through another love scene like that would have severed even my extreme patience. I also wished that they had at least more than one intimate conversation to perhaps.. I don’t know… get to know each other? (omg a conversation?! how does that go?) but every time he wanted to discuss their situation it appeared that more sensual pursuits are in order. And let’s not even get started on the adjectives heightening the Cynster family image - not nearly enough ‘wolfish’, ‘wolflike’, ‘wolfalicious?’ moves, smiles and etc etc… why are they dangerous exactly is still boggling to the mind since they seem pretty decent and family oriented.
